UK Public Revenue Site

On June 1, 2014 we launched a revenue site, ukpublicrevenue.co.uk. to accompany UK public spending site ukpublicspending.co.uk.  The data goes back to 1692.

Recent and forecast GDP comes from the UK Office of Budget Responsibility's Economic and fiscal outlook report, using tables 1.1 and 1.2 in a spreadsheet file labeled "Economic and fiscal outlook supplementary economy tables".
Previous UK GDP comes from Measuring Worth. The data goes back to 1692.

At launch we have outturn revenue data from 1692 to 2012-2013 and forecast revenue data for 2013-2014 to 2015-2016.

Forecast Revenue Data

Revenue forecast data comes from the Office of Budget Responsibility's Economic and fiscal outlook report, using table "2.8 Current receipts" in a spreadsheet file labeled "Economic and fiscal outlook supplementary fiscal tables".

Outturn Revenue Data for 1947-2013

Revenue outturn data comes from the Office for National Statistics' Public Sector Finances report using a spreadsheet file labeled "Public Sector Finances Supplementary Tables".

Outturn Revenue Data for 1692-1946

Revenue outturn data comes from B.R. Mitchell, British Historical Statistics.  This is necessary because UK government finance data evaporate before about 1950.

Central government revenue data comes from two tables "Public Finance 1" for 1692 to 1800, and "Public Finance 3" for 1801 to 1946.

Local authority revenue data starts in 1868 for England and Wales and Ireland and 1880 for Scotland.  It comes from three tables "Public Finance 11", "Public Fiance 14," and  "Public Finance 17."
